WHO KT Working Group

The WHO, as a subgrantee for this project, assumed the responsibility for the development of global knowledge translation tools for pre-eclampsia.  The Knowledge Translation Working Group is be chaired by Dr Matthews Mathai, Medical Officer - Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health Program, and includes internationally renowned knowledge translation scientists and pre-eclampsia experts.

The development, distribution, and implementation of evidence based and culturally appropriate knowledge translation tools for both well resourced and low resourced settings is critical to effecting a reduction in the burden of life-ending, life-threatening, and life-altering maternal and perinatal complications of pre-eclampsia/eclampsia.  The scope of the project includes the development and distribution of evidence based knowledge translation tools.  The knowledge translation tools developed can be used at the community, primary health clinic, and facility levels to improved evidence informed clinical decision-making and patient self identification of pre-eclampsia symptoms.  The documents can also be used to inform policy making at the professional association, government, and national service health care levels, and to update existing maternal health guidelines.

The KT group is involved in updating the WHO pre-eclampsia guidelines and preparing for their active dissemination and implementation.
